We want to hear your stories!

Monadnock Family Services believes that the stigma surrounding mental illness hurts consumers and their families and slows recovery. Negative and prejudiced attitudes often cause people to shun the mentally ill and refuse them opportunities in education, employment, and participation in society.

One way to fight stigma is to educate others about the harmful effects it has on individuals and families.  Monadnock Family Services is collecting stories that document the reality of stigma here in the Monadnock region.  These stories will be used in our ongoing campaign to eliminate stigma and create opportunity for all who struggle with mental illness.

You can participate in this project by writing a description or story about how you have experienced the stigma of mental illness.  It can be as short or long as you like, and you can make any changes you want to maintain your privacy.  Before public release, Monadnock Family Services will edit any stories we receive to assure the confidentiality of any consumers or families that participate.

We would also like to hear any positive accounts of how you or someone you know was able to confront barriers or ignorance.  If you aren’t comfortable writing your own story, give us a call and we can interview you. When you’re ready, drop your story in this box or mail to Erin George, MFS, 93rd Street, Keene, NH 03431 or egeorge@mfs.org .

All experiences, stories, and otherwise will be kept strictly confidential. You never need to include your name on any voluntary submissions. Participation in this anti-stigma campaign is strictly voluntary!
