Our
primary focus is to send volunteers to public and non profit
agencies in the Monadnock Area. In order to meet community
needs that other agencies are
unable to fill, we have developed the following programs that offer exciting
and
fulfilling opportunities for you! |

AMERICA
READS - So that every child can read …….
Volunteers work one-on-one with children in grades K-3 to help them
improve their reading to grade level ability. Volunteers are assigned to a classroom
teacher and work with two or three children for the entire school year! Training
and on-going support are provided. |

DISASTER
PREPAREDNESS - Be Prepared… Have a plan!
Help members of your community who may be the most vulnerable in an emergency
be prepared for the unexpected! Volunteers will teach school-aged children
about
the science and causes of disasters and how to prepare and be safe using fun,
hands-on lessons and activities from Masters of Disaster. Volunteers also make
presentations
to seniors helping them identify and plan for their special needs. This is a
flexible opportunity and senior citizens and retirees are encouraged to volunteer. |

MENTORING
- Be the one… Make a difference!
This program is a collaboration between schools, the community and
the Volunteer Center. The program matches youth between the ages
of 13-18 years with a caring adult that acts as an additional
support in a young person’s life. The mentor
offers support, guidance, acceptance and friendship to their mentee.
Mentors and mentees meet 3 to 4 times a month to talk or participate
in an activity. Training and mentoring are provided to mentors and
optional activities are planned for mentor and mentee to do together. |

NEIGHBORS-IN-DEED
- A Neighbor’s
Independence Depends on You
Neighbors In Deed is a network of volunteers who offer assistance
and friendship to elderly persons in the Monadnock Region. Volunteers
activities may include
shopping for groceries, providing rides to medical appointments, running errands,
and providing companionship to the elderly. Volunteers also provide
respite and relief
for caregivers. This program helps the elderly maintain their independence and
quality of life. |

PROJECT CHORE -- No job too small - service with a
smile!
Volunteers provide a free service for the elderly and disabled to
assist them in basic home maintenance and minor home repair. The
recipient provides the material and the volunteer provides the labor.
Some project examples are replacing outdoor light bulbs, minor plumbing
repairs, installing a grab bar in a bathtub, replacing bathroom tiles
and trimming a branch. |
|
|
TELEPHONE REASSURANCE -- A Good Morning Call for you!
Volunteers make daily “good morning” calls to seniors who are over
60, who may be home-bound, living alone, or at risk for falls or sudden illness
to check on their
well being and for a friendly visit. Referrals are accepted from family members
and
agencies |
